I got a request for a portrait of Guinness, a sweet 13 y/o Shephard that lives at Gila Hot Springs. Guinness was camera shy, and it was difficult to get a good shot of her face. My patron wanted some greenery behind Guinness, and some of the purple lobelia flowers that are around the hot springs.
I created a digital composition, made a ghost b&w image transfer on gesso as a sketch, and painted her from there. Slideshow of process is below.
